Who we are

Hello! I’m Jim Richmond — the ‘old man’ behind Old Man Wellness. I’m passionate about fitness, aging well, and reclaiming ‘old’ as experienced, wise, and aspirational rather than the worn-out shuffling image my Google search delivers. My running and fitness journey began when I was 12, racing the 880-yard dash on a hand-painted track in the parking lot of St. Alphonsus grade school. That simple beginning sparked a lifelong passion for running and staying active—one that’s evolved over the decades as life unfolded.

Since then, I’ve run everything from 10Ks to marathons. While my consistency has ebbed and flowed with different life chapters, the love for movement has never faded. I’ve been fortunate to avoid major health issues (aside from a right hip replacement 10 years ago), and even that couldn’t keep me from lacing up my running shoes.

Like anyone who lives an active lifestyle, I’ve dealt with my share of aches, pains, and minor injuries. I’m a naturally curious and analytical person, so I’ve always been focused on understanding the “why” behind each issue. Over time, I’ve built a personal toolkit—adjusting routines, strengthening weaknesses, and learning how to move smarter, not just harder.

These days, my social media feed reflects my current interests: core strength, hip mobility, injury prevention, running, swimming, and biking. That said, I’m not working out 24/7—I aim for 60–90 minutes a day, which might be a long run, a walk with my wife, some free weights, a swim, or a bit of everything.

With all four of my kids now out of the house, I have a little more room in the schedule to focus on health and wellness. But I know firsthand how challenging it is to stay active while raising a family. For 26+ years, I navigated that juggling act—and along the way, I also spent nearly 15 of those years coaching youth sports from U6 to U18 in soccer, basketball, and baseball.

Coaching comes naturally to me—it's something I've always loved, and I often say that if I had a do-over in life, I'd be a coach full-time. That passion is what led to the creation of Old Man Wellness, a space where I can share what I’ve learned, encourage others, and offer ideas to help you stay active through your most “experienced” season of life. My hope is that Old Man Wellness becomes a source of inspiration and encouragement, not just for you, but for me as well. I’m genuinely looking forward to being inspired by all of you and the stories you share along the way.
